Dark fantasy adventure game

The Remainder is a free adventure game that was developed by Square Weasel Studio. It is a visual novel that is set in a dark fantasy world. In it, players will get to know the tale of a high magus, as well as explore a world full of ritual magic and the occult.

Similar to games like Deliver Us From Evil, The Remainder's strongest appeal is its deep and well-written narrative that consists of over 40,000 words for its first act. It also comes with beautifully hand-drawn art to complement and help tell its story.

What is The Remainder about?

In The Remainder, you play High Magus Vyn. You awaken inside a stone tower with no memory, and you’re greeted by an enigmatic stranger named Ilar. He informs you that a door to the abyss has opened, threatening to consume you unless you do what he says. Thus, begins your journey into the world of the occult, filled with dark magic, strange artifacts, and shadowy figures watching your every move.

You learn that a failed ritual of yours caused a disaster and your amnesia. You must now try to rediscover the spell that will help you undo your mistake and return things to normal. Dark forces will be ever-present, attempting to thwart your advances towards your recollection. A visit from a loyal companion and visions of your past with Ilar will guide you and help you through it all.

Now, before diving in, just be aware that The Remainder is still being developed further, with Act I serving as its first fully playable section. More acts will come, but they will arrive in waves. Also, being a visual novel, expect it to be quite text-heavy, with minimal actual gameplay. Lastly, this game is meant for adult players as it delves into mature themes involving violence, death, and suicide.

Beautiful and intriguing

All in all, if you're a fan of visual novels, The Remainder is a well-written and beautifully drawn game that is worth checking out. The narrative is intriguing, the dark fantasy setting fits in with its theme quite well, and there is a lot to read and experience with its over 40,000 words. Best of all, more acts will come in future updates. Really good and gets a recommendation.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.
